MARCHESE ANTINORI Solaia, Toscana IGT 2017 Bottle
About this wine
Marchese Antinori Solaia, Toscana IGT
Solaia is one of the defining wines of Tuscany and a modern icon of the Antinori family. First produced in 1978 from a parcel within the Tenuta Tignanello estate in Chianti Classico, it was created as a companion to Tignanello, with a greater emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is situated on southwest-facing slopes with marl and limestone soils, which lend depth and structure to the fruit.
The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with support from Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled vats, with malolactic fermentation taking place in oak barrels. Ageing occurs in new French barriques for approximately 18 months before bottling, overseen by the Antinori winemaking team, which has refined the style over the past four decades.
Each vintage, Solaia exhibits notes of blackcurrant, plum, tobacco, and spice on the nose. The palate is layered with cassis, cedar, and dark cherry, complemented by a firm yet balanced tannin structure, which delivers longevity and consistency in the cellar.
