MARGAN Ceres Hill Barbera, Hunter Valley 2025 Bottle
About this wine
Margan Ceres Hill Barbera, Hunter Valley
The Margan family pioneered Italian varieties in the Hunter Valley, planting Barbera at Ceres Hill in 1998. Set on the volcanic red clay soils of the Broke Fordwich sub-region, this site yields some of the oldest Barbera vines in the area.
Winemaker Andrew Margan handles the fruit with a light touch. Wild fermentation in small open vats preserves the natural aromatics, followed by gentle maturation in large oak casks and puncheons. This approach ensures the oak supports rather than smothers the grape's inherent character.
The nose reveals dark cherry, rhubarb, and subtle savoury spice. On the palate, expect vibrant red berries, bright acidity, and supple, low-key tannins. It is a medium-bodied, food-friendly red that delivers authentic varietal punch and exceptional freshness.
