Another extremely classy single vineyard chardonnay. On granite, just three-kilometres from the ocean. Dry-grown. A broad swathe of stone fruit allusions meld with porcini, toasted hazelnuts and sensitively hedged oak. A wine of considerable force by virtue of the fruit extract, coupled with a latency due to the tightly wound structural attributes. Once these bind across mid-term ageing, expect fireworks. This is strongly reminiscent of a fine Meursault. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Complex and lifted aromas of grapefruit pith, jasmine, melon skin, struck match, mineral and winter green. Rich, mouth-filling and quite plush on the palate. There’s a very pure drive of white stone fruit and citrus along with a mealy nuttiness. Powerful, layered and multi-faceted, a very serious Aussie chardonnay.

The tense, linear 2021 Chardonnay Burnside Vineyard is a young stallion that is brimming with youthful vitality and needs time to unfurl. Aromas are concentrated and precise - citrus and florals with a distinct pithy edge beautifully intertwined with vanilla oatmeal barrel characters. Beautifully composed, it is just starting to reveal its charms with a firm backbone of acidity driving through to a seriously long finish. Put this away to enjoy at its best.
