About this wine
Mount Pleasant Mountain A Medium Bodied Dry Red, Hunter Valley
The Mountain Range wines pay homage to Maurice O'Shea's talent as a master blender. He had an astounding ability to make and recognise small unique parcels. And depending on what style they were, light-bodied, medium-bodied or full-bodied, O'Shea gave each of them different code names: Mountain C, Mountain A and Mountain D.

Huon Hooke
Deep red/purple colour. The aromas are reserved and more about dried herbs than fruit, balsamic herbs, the palate rich and medium to full-bodied, with fleshy texture and ample tannins, supple and delicious. A core of sweetly ripe almost liqueur-cherry flavour. Elegance and length, finished by abundant tannin. Oak is invisible and has been deftly handled.

Tannins are strong, excellent, dark berries woven through, fennel, earthiness, clove spice and some tobacco. Sumptuous wine, expansive and rippling with authority. Quite a feast for the senses. Strong, muscular thing, but with all the bits working well. A bold red done well.

A modern, medium-bodied red that has ample, sweet red berries and spicy, espresso-laced oak influence. The palate shows supple, elegant and very fresh, vivid style with impressive drinkability. Will age nicely, too. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Solid and implacable. A medium bodied Hunter dry red. Albeit, with considerable flare. Hand picked from the 1965 parcel at Rosehill. Fermented in open tops after cold soak, pumped-over thrice a day. In puncheons for 9 months, a smidgeon new. Delicious drinking. Savoury, as to be expected. Scents of lavender, licorice, thyme and mottled red and blue fruits. Iodine and lilac, too. The tannic detail, impressive while drawing a taut bow of tension across the mid palate.
