About this wine
Mount Pleasant Old Paddock and Old Hill Shiraz is made from grapes handpicked from two of the Hunter Valley’s oldest vineyards. Old Hill was first planted by legend and trailblazer Maurice O’ Shea in 1921, while Old Hill dates back to 1880. These are old vines with character and distinction. A deep, rich Hunter Valley red, you’ll find sweet red and blackberry fruit, with dense oak and chocolate on the long finish. Built to age.

The east-facing Old Paddock was planted in 1920 and the Old Hill first planted in 1880.3 days cold soak, 3% whole bunches, matured for 12 months in French oak (25% new). Here the fusion of predominantly black fruits with the red soils impossible to question or better, fantastic tannins a further highlight. Bargain.

Dark fruit, boysenberry, pepper, hazelnut, liquorice, that distinct hillside earthiness, and sensible vanilla oak in support. Medium to full-bodied, deep in fruit and concentration, yet like most of the 2017 wines, not stolid or heavy: there’s convincing life and energy here. Tannin is rich and nourishing, acidity well settled, and a finish that’s kind of umami, yet pretty and red fruited too. It’s an outstanding OP&OH.

Huon Hooke
Deep, youthful red/purple colour with a smoky, mineral, sooty and dark chocolate bouquet, with a faint overtone of smoky sulfides. The wine is medium to full-bodied and elegant, as well as concentrated and fleshy. A delicious wine in a more elegant caste.

Very fresh, elegant and juicy feel with a richly composed array of fresh cherries, red plums and subtly earthy aromas. The palate has depth with finesse and elegance; really bright red fruit abounds with darker plum, blackberry and toasted spices to close. Excellent.
