About this wine
Mount Pleasant Rosehill Shiraz is made from vines first planted by legendary Hunter Valley winemaker Maurice O’Shea in 1946. It’s a classic Hunter red with that very distinctive Mount Pleasant profile, imparted by the volcanic soil of Rosehill (a rare commodity in the Hunter). It’s rich in peppery red fruits and firm tannins, with pleasing oak and leather on the nose.

Pretty, floral, a little pepper, red fruits and vanilla. Medium-bodied, flow and charm, succulence and composure, mildly peppery tannin, bright and fresh, milk chocolate, fine dusty tannin trailing with red fruit sweetness and perfume on a fine finish. Typical and lovely. More to come. If you like Rosehill, you’ll find much to love here. Just into 95 points: its class gets it over the line.

Deep, young red/purple colour. The bouquet is a little subdued but is savoury, earthy, slightly charcoaly: not a simple fruit wine but more complex and mysterious. The wine is full-bodied and the tannins are firm and savoury, structural and balanced. Deep-set cherry and berry flavours. The finish carries well-sculpted tannins and lingers on well. A stylish wine with lots of potential.

This has a fine array of red berries and cocoa powder on offer with an elegant and finely detailed feel. There’s a real core of freshness and verve here. Classic Hunter shiraz power with elegance.

The winemaking has become more and more deft over the years but all the Rosehill hallmarks are here: it's creamy, earthen and floral with bright red berries and just enough depth to satisfy. Tannin is firmish but perfectly placed in the wine, as indeed is acidity. In a medium-weight context this oozes X-factor. It will mature gloriously.
