Müller-Catoir’s Bürgergarten Riesling comes from one of the estate’s key holdings in the Mittelhaardt, just outside Neustadt in the Pfalz. Bürgergarten is a historic, sheltered site with sandstone soils that give Riesling both clarity and a firm mineral line. The vineyard sits at a moderate elevation, protected by forest, and consistently produces fruit of precision and structure. Winemaking is led by Martin Franzen, who favours spontaneous fermentations in stainless steel to preserve site character. The wine typically opens with citrus oil, stone fruit and wet rock aromas. The palate is taut, with fresh acidity and a dry, linear finish. It is not showy but holds its shape with age. Year in and year out, this is one of the clearest expressions of dry Riesling in the Pfalz, and its reputation among collectors continues to grow. Strong value when compared to more widely recognised Grosses Gewächs bottlings. Cellar or drink now with confidence.
