Oakridge Wines Vineyard Series Willowlake Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley
]From the acclaimed Willowlake Vineyard, this single-site Pinot Noir shows the affinity the variety has with the red volcanic soils found in the region. First planted in 1992 on a north-facing plot at 170 metres above sea level, it is a fantastic study on the influence of terroir on the wine. Made using traditional techniques including whole berry fermentation (80%) and whole bunches (20%), it’s fermented in open vessels for two weeks prior to maturation in French oak for 10 months. The resulting wine is seductive and vibrant with a spectrum of complex berry and spice notes.

Oakridge Estate, founded in 1978, has had a longstanding reputation for quality. It has been blessed with a succession of talented winemakers. The winery, located at 864 Maroondah Highway at Coldstream in the Yarra Valley, is led by esteemed veteran winemaker Dave Bicknell. It is under his watch that Oakridge has blossomed and excelled. The fruit is sourced from both owned and independent grower vineyards. David and his team are renowned for producing exceptional single vineyard wines made with minimal intervention, and in using innovative and sustainable practices in winemaking and viticulture. The wines are beautifully made and illustrate the idea that winemaker’s intuition and skill are completely intertwined with the idea of distinguished vineyard site. The Reserve style wines, labelled 864 and released in top vintages, are outstanding and comprise a Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
