ORLANDO Steingarten Riesling, Eden Valley 2013 Bottle
About this wine
Orlando Steingarten Riesling, Eden Valley
Steingarten is a benchmark for cool-climate Riesling in Australia. Established in 1962 by Colin Gramp, the vineyard is carved into a steep, windswept hillside in the Eden Valley. The name translates to stone garden, reflecting the fractured slate and quartz soils that define the site. At 450 metres above sea level, the vines endure harsh conditions to produce fruit with high natural acidity and concentrated flavour.
Winemaker Sandrine Gimon oversees a process focused on regional purity. The fruit is harvested at night to retain freshness and pressed gently. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats to preserve the delicate aromatic profile. The wine does not see oak, ensuring the characteristics of the Eden Valley terroir remain the primary focus.
The nose presents intense aromas of lime zest, lemon blossom, and white pepper. On the palate, the wine is bone dry and light-bodied. It delivers flavours of fresh citrus and green apple, underpinned by a distinct mineral texture resembling wet slate. The finish is long and precise, offering significant ageing potential for the cellar.
