About this wine
Patrick Sullivan Woori Yallock Chardonnay, Yarra Valley
Patrick Sullivan has built his reputation on producing wines that are as much about place as they are about craft. His Woori Yallock Chardonnay comes from the cooler upper reaches of the Yarra Valley, a site that consistently yields fruit of clarity and definition. The vineyard’s elevation and exposure deliver grapes with natural acidity and delicate balance, making it an ideal source for Chardonnay of precision and character.
In the winery, Sullivan takes a careful but assured approach. Fermentation is with wild yeasts, and the wine spends time in French oak barrels, including a measured proportion of new wood, to frame the fruit without overshadowing it. Lee's contact adds depth, while the winemaking remains focused on letting the vineyard speak clearly.
Each vintage, this Chardonnay exhibits citrus and stone fruit aromas on the nose, complemented by subtle floral notes. The palate typically features a core of lemon, white peach, and mineral freshness, complemented by texture from barrel and lees, and a long, clean finish.

Fruit off Lusatia Park vineyard, thank you very much. As is the Patrick Sullivan way, all the single-site chardonnays are made the same – whole-bunch pressed to tank, fermented in French oak barriques (30% new) aged 11 months, plus mlf with strategic lees stirring (not much). This is the most aromatic of the four wines with orange blossom, white nectarine, and almost a lemony saline note that’s highly appealing, flinty and smoky, too. The palate is restrained, led by grapefruit and white nectarine flavours, mouth-watering acidity and oak spices with a layering of nutty lees adding more of a savoury component. Complex and detailed, utterly delicious.

From the Lusatia Park Vineyard.
Stone fruit, ripe lime, lemon myrtle, ginger and cinnamon, and it strikes me as a little bit exotic in perfume. It’s medium-bodied, nutty and saline, has some richness and presence, cinnamon studded apple, green olive, lime and lime rind, a flinty and grainy grip, with a finish of excellent length. Distinctive wine and very good it is too.

The 2024 Chardonnay Woori Yallock, from the well-known Lusatia Park Vineyard, has an understated but layered bouquet of peach skin and nectarine tones that slowly give way to citrus pith, almond meal and a spine of French oak. Succulent textures match tangy acidity on the distinctly savoury palate as reductive elements take hold against a backdrop of chewy orchard fruit. The 2024 finishes with exceptional length and tension.
