Medium to full red-purple; the bouquet is at once complex yet smooth, with dark berry and chocolate fruit whipped through with lots of vanilla oak. The palate has abundant flavour in the dark berry spectrum; fine but evident tannins and good acidity help build structure and length.

There are a lot of really good South Australian reds out of 1994 but also a lot of blocky, overdone wines – this is one of the really good ones.
There is substantial tannin and substantial flavour, the two wedded in the most delicious manner. This is a super Stonewell. It is also in the centre groove of its peak. Plums, chocolate, leather and coffee. Kept repeating the word in my mind: substantial.
