R. ROSTAING Ampodium, Cote-Rotie 2019 Bottle
About this wine
René Rostaing Ampodium, Cote-Rotie
Ampodium is René Rostaing’s main Cote-Rotie cuvée, drawn from various parcels, including the famed Côte Blonde and La Landonne. Previously known simply as “Classique,” it was renamed to mark a new phase for the domain following Rostaing’s consolidation of family vineyards. The fruit is hand-harvested and partially fermented with whole bunches, then aged for around 18 months in a mix of used oak barrels, allowing site and vintage to shape the final wine. Ampodium offers a clear expression of Cote-Rotie—floral and savoury on the nose, with dark berry fruit, black olive and delicate spice on the palate. Tannins are well integrated, giving the wine structure without weight. It is approachable after a few years in a bottle but also ages well. Year in and year out, it delivers substantial value and pedigree and provides a benchmark for those looking to understand the region’s appeal.
