Riposte by Tim Knappstein Halberd Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills

The Halberd Chardonnay is part of Tim Knappstein’s Riposte range, which takes its name and inspiration from fencing, with each wine named for a sword. Sourced from carefully selected sites in the Adelaide Hills, this Chardonnay reflects the cool climate and varied altitudes of the region.

Fruit is hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed to preserve purity and structure. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, followed by maturation on lees to build texture and complexity. Tim Knappstein and his team aim for balance rather than overt oak influence, allowing the fruit to remain at the centre of the wine.

Each vintage offers lifted aromas of citrus and stone fruit, underpinned by subtle spice and struck match notes. The palate shows fine acidity with layers of grapefruit, white peach, and a savoury edge, leading to a long, precise finish that pairs well with food.
