ABOUT THE WINERY
Rymill
Langton’s Selections Rymill Cabernet Sauvignon, Rymill MC3 Cabernet Blend, Rymill Shiraz Peter Riddoch Rymill’s family has been inextricably linked to Coonawarra for over a century. John Riddoch – the father of Coonawarra and founder of the Penola Fruit Colony – is Peter Rymill’s great grandfather. His father John Rymill was a distinguished polar explorer. He led the British Graham Land Expedition from 1934 to 1937. In 1974 Peter and Judy Rymill, local graziers and horse breeders, became grape growers planting 100 hectare of vines on what is now known as the Riddoch Run vineyard located at the northern end of Coonawarra. Initially providing fruit for local vignerons, they established their own label in 1987, moving towards full-scale production in 1989. Rymill’s landmark winery is now a prominent feature on the Coonawarra landscape. The Rymill Coonawarra Cabernet is partially barrel fermented and sees maturation French in oak. An evolving style, it is the strongest card in the Rymill pack with plenty of cellaring potential. Indeed Rymill has recently added a maturation release Cabernet, essentially a barrel selection with a further 5 years of aging. Rymill MC3 is a blend of Cabernet Merlot and Cabernet Franc with 20 months barrel maturation. Rymill Shiraz, aged for over 2 years in both French and American oak, is also worth seeking out.
