SANDRONE Aleste, Barolo DOCG 2018 Magnum
About this wine
Sandrone’s original Barolo, classically built Cannubi.
Aleste is Sandrone’s Barolo from the Cannubi Boschis vineyard, a prized site just outside the town of Barolo. This was the estate’s first Barolo, made by Luciano Sandrone in 1985, and it remains one of its most recognised wines. Renamed “Aleste” in 2013, it now honours Luciano’s grandchildren, Alessia and Stefano. Handled carefully, the fruit is fermented in open-top tanks with gentle extraction, then aged in large French oak botti for around two years.
Each vintage offers dark cherry, rose and dried herb on the nose, with a palate shaped by pure red fruit, sinewy tannins and a long mineral finish. It’s a wine built for time in the cellar. Sandrone’s approach balances tradition and modernity, giving Aleste a reputation for consistency and ageing potential. For collectors and drinkers alike, this is a benchmark Barolo from a name that continues to define excellence in the region.
