Shiraz sourced from the epic Moorooroo Vineyard in Rowland Flat, planted in 1847, aged in French oak for 18 months (30% new). High toned and perfumed with hints of violets and jasmine hovering over the ripe plum and dark berry compote notes. Plenty of spicy nuance, hints of licorice, dark chocolate and turned earth. Medium bodied, with a sense of grace and elegance to its form; fine tannins and stony acidity shape the fruit nicely and the wine finishes savoury and long.

This is intense. Wow. Heavy bottle for a heavy wine. If you want flavour then this really delivers it. Deep pools of liquorice, asphalt, clove and coffee flavours, dark chocolate laced throughout. Warm spice notes too, and warm alcohol with it. In some ways it’s unsubtle but in others it’s neat. It’s certainly finely crafted. This is the big end of town done very well.

The fruit for this 2019 Moorooroo Shiraz is carefully handpicked from ancestor vines planted in 1847. It was open fermented, matured in new and seasoned French oak for up to 24 months before being bottled and then held in glass for a year prior to release. The concentration and density of fruit tannin and flavor is awesome to behold here. The wine has a thickness, without being too heavy—a difficult balance to strike. The length of flavor through the finish tells us what we need to know about the quality of the fruit coming off these very old vines. It is muscular and structural and big, with a long life ahead.

A juicy and flavorful red but stays in check with blackcurrant, sandalwood, and berry. It’s medium- to full-bodied with creamy texture and a long, flavorful finish. Spicy with lots of Asian spices and cloves underneath it all. Drink or hold.
