Silent Way Riesling, Macedon Ranges

Silent Way Riesling represents a distinct shift for the Macedon Ranges. Winemaker Matt Harrop sources fruit from granite-rich soils near Lancefield, focusing on sites that retain natural acidity through the region’s cold nights. This non-vintage release combines several years of production to ensure consistency and depth. It avoids the sharp edges often found in young Riesling by blending mature components with fresher parcels.

The winemaking is deliberate and textural. Harrop utilises old French oak puncheons for fermentation rather than stainless steel. This technique allows for gentle oxygen exchange and builds a savoury weight without adding woody flavours. The wine spends significant time on lees, which softens the structure and creates a creamy mouthfeel that balances the cool-climate precision.

Expect a profile defined by lime curd and white floral notes. The palate is dry and structured, showing lemon pith, green apple, and a distinct flinty mineral character. Its weight makes it versatile for food, while its vibrant acidity keeps it crisp. This is a dependable, high-quality Victorian white that prioritises regional character over passing trends.
