Dave Brookes
An impressive melding of shiraz and mataro in the inimitable Spinifex style. That is to say, an incredibly harmonious and plushly fruited wine with incredible colour to boot. It's all satsuma plum and boysenberry fruits, but with hints of garrigue and exotic spice, blueberry and dried cranberry, a touch of struck flint and purple floral tones. The mataro tannin ramps up on the palate, firm yet ripe and long, and there is sapidity and frame to the acidity. Finishes long with amazingly pure fruit and a gentle wisp of complexing reductive characters and spice.

Rich, full-blooded red wine served on rails of velvet. This is a seriously creamy wine, its saturated plum and blueberry flavours gliding through the palate before finishing with a juicy flourish. There’s fine-grained tannin and quite high acidity, but the fruit and oak characters here flush straight through both. Mint and clove notes are also part of the show, as is smoked cedar. It’s still finding its feet but the stuffing here is excellent.

Inky, dark and foreboding in the glass. Brooding aromas of mulberry, graphite, anise, dried herbs, cola and spice. The palate has real dark fruit drive and purpose. It's full, rich, meaty and plush, all tempered with savoury, shapely tannins and punchy, snappy acidity. Lovely weight, poise and layers of flavour.
