Te Mata Estate Alma Pinot Noir is Te Mata’s flagship pinot and a leading Hawke’s Bay expression, offering serious pinot pedigree with the estate’s hallmark precision and longevity. Alma draws on Te Mata’s own vineyards near Havelock North, a project first planted in 1999 as the estate set out to prove that Hawke’s Bay could deliver top-tier New Zealand pinot noir. Parcels are hand-harvested and handled gently, then matured in French oak barriques (with around 30% new oak in recent vintages) to build fine tannin and shape rather than overt oak flavour. The wine typically sits in the medium-bodied spectrum with bright red fruits – redcurrant, cherry and strawberry – layered with florals, spice and subtle earthy complexity, carried by silky, well-knit tannins.
