THIERRY MORTET Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru 2017 Bottle
About this wine
Thierry Mortet Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru
Thierry Mortet established his domaine in 1992, continuing the work of his father, Charles Mortet, in Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, Thierry works with small parcels across the Côte de Nuits, including the Premier Cru Clos Prieur vineyard, situated just below the famed Mazis-Chambertin. The site features shallow limestone soils over clay, resulting in wines that exhibit both structure and finesse.
Mortet’s approach in the cellar is precise and restrained. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, with a portion of whole bunches retained for fermentation depending on the vintage. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with a modest percentage of new wood to frame rather than dominate the wine.
The Clos Prieur 1er Cru offers vibrant red and black fruit with earthy notes and subtle spice. The palate shows depth and fine tannins, with a long finish that reflects the pedigree of this celebrated Gevrey site.
