About this wine
Thörle Hölle Spätburgunder, Rheinhessen
A mid-weighted, crystalline wine of a shimmering transparency that could only come from pure limestone. As the Burgundians state vociferously, limestone is a prerequisite for great Pinot Noir. Think crunchy red mountain berries popping through the mouth, a whiff of elderflower and tannins so pixelated and refined that they resemble a satin sheet billowing across the palate. The acidity is juicy, towing the flavours long while pulling the saliva forth in preparation for the next sip. Reminiscent of Chambolle-Musigny with its sapid intensity of red fruited flavours juxtaposed against an ethereal lightness of being. Perhaps, Les Amoureuses.

Expert Review
Ned Goodwin MW
More refined, suave and elegant, nigh on diaphonous. Red fruit. Tamarind and sour cherry. More Chambolle than, say, Probstey's Gevrey. Riveting wine of the highest order. Wow!
97 points, Ned Goodwin MW.
