ABOUT THE WINERY
Thorn-Clarke
Langton’s Selections Thorn-Clarke William Randell Shiraz Thorn-Clarke has established a strong following in the primary wine market. The family has owned significant vineyard holdings in the Barossa Valley for 20 years. The 100 hectare St Kitts and Truro Vineyard is located in the Northern Barossa at an elevation of roughly 380-410 metres. The cooler-sited 37 hectare Mount Crawford Vineyard at around 500 metres is located at the southern end of the Eden Valley and close to the Adelaide Hills region. The 33 hectare Kabininge Vineyard is located on the Barossa Floor in the Moorooroo area of the Barossa and is mostly planted to Shiraz. The Milton Park Vineyard is a 100 hectare property located between Angaston and Keyneton – on classic Eden Valley soils. The Shotfire Ridge wines based on Kabinininge fruit have done very well in the commercial primary market. The ripely textured chocolaty, a touch minty, Shotfire Ridge Shiraz is matured in new (roughly 40%) and used American and French oak. The Shotfire Quartage is a Bordeaux type blend based which sees around 16 months in mostly tightly grained French and roughly 15% American oak. The William Randell Shiraz, the flagship wine, is a no-holds-barred-no expense-spared type wine, matured in new and equally proportioned French and American oak. However it is little known on the secondary market. David and Cheryl Clarke have established an impressive business based on high quality fruit. The wines are increasingly found on the secondary wine market and always represent good value. The Sandpiper Range comprises entry point wines which are early drinking styles. Terra Barossa wines are marketing wines made for the American palate. Andrew Caillard MW, Langton's
