Vigneti Boveri Giacomo La Cappelletta Freisa, Colli Tortonesi

From the hills of Colli Tortonesi in Piedmont, La Cappelletta is a pure expression of Freisa from Vigneti Boveri Giacomo, a producer committed to native varieties and traditional methods. The vineyard is situated on limestone-rich soils, resulting in low yields and exceptional fruit definition. Winemaker Giacomo Boveri ferments the wine in stainless steel to preserve varietal character, before ageing it in large, old oak botti—an approach that balances structure and freshness without overt wood influence.

Freisa is a close relative of Nebbiolo and shares some of its aromatic and tannic traits. Each vintage of La Cappelletta opens with notes of sour cherry, wild herbs and dried rose. The palate is energetic, marked by taut acidity, firm tannins and earthy red fruit. A wine of character and detail, suited to lovers of traditional Piedmontese styles. It’s a compelling young wine but develops well over five to ten years in the bottle. Decanting is recommended.
