VIK Vintage Collection 3 pack Cabernet Franc Cabernet, Cachapoal Valley

This three-vintage collectors pack includes the 2018, 2020 and the 100-point 2021, a vintage that is not just perfect but, according to James Suckling, the ‘best ever.

VIK is the result of an extensive scientific search for the finest terroir in South America. The estate is located in the Millahue Valley, a sub-region of Cachapoal known as the Golden Place by the indigenous Mapuche. The vineyard spans twelve distinct microclimates cooled by coastal breezes and winds from the Andes Mountains. This site provides the complex environmental conditions necessary to produce a world-class red blend.

Winemaker Cristián Vallejo employs high-technology viticulture alongside traditional methods. The grapes are hand-harvested at night to maintain freshness. Fermentation occurs naturally with native yeasts. The wine ages for 26 months in French oak barrels. Some of these barrels are toasted with oak sourced directly from the estate forest, a process the winery calls Barroir. A portion of the wine also matures in clay amphorae made from soil on the property.

The nose offers aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and fresh tobacco leaf with hints of graphite. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and precise. It features flavours of dark fruit and chocolate supported by fine-grained tannins. The finish is long and energetic, reflecting the mineral character of the decomposed granite soils. This is a significant wine for collectors seeking prestige and longevity from the New World.
