Expert Review
Gary Walsh
Don’t know much about this wine, aside it being pressings of, I think, Shiraz, Malbec and Cabernet.
I keep referring to ‘glassy acidity’ in these 2017 Wendouree wines, and I hope it makes sense when you taste them (working on the basis that these reviews are largely for people in possession of the wines), as it seems to be a theme for the year. Blackberry and blackcurrant pastilles, aniseed, a little spice, a sort of rosy perfume and chocolate. Dense, pastille-like dark fruits, very firm acidity (glassy, yes), a silty depth to the tannin, though they are so cut back by sweetness of fruit and acidity so don’t make quite so much impact as usual. Good wine this. Quiet succulence and intensity of flavour. 94+ points.
