About this wine
WYNNS COONAWARRA ESTATE Black Label Shiraz, Coonawarra
A classic Australian wine, Wynns Black Label Shiraz was previously known as “Wynns Black Label Hermitage”. Typically showing superb fruit density, with ample red forest berry fruit and spice and supple tannins, Black Label Shiraz typifies Coonawarra’s mid-weight elegant style. The palate is fine and silky. The old vines give generous redcurrant fruit flavours at moderate sugar levels. Hence the restrained alcohol yet perfectly ripe fruit.

Campbell Mattinson
“Vineyards planted in the 1890s and 1920s form the backbone and define the style of this wine.”
It’s a medium-bodied wine with good fruit flavour and a keen-but-fine firmness to it. It tastes of raspberry and red cherry, cloves and musk, sweet spices and cedar, a powdery, pillowy lightness at play throughout, though not at the expense of pure fruit. There’s a mundane-like note here too. It feels intricate; it feels impeccable.

Huon Hooke
Extremely bright, deep purple colour, with a fragrant violet, aniseed, floral/spice bouquet that is powerful and alluring. The wine is medium bodied, rich and fleshy, with lovely texture and fruit sweetness, soft refined tannins and traces of pepper and graphite. Lovely wine, impeccably balanced and more-ish. 27 MAR 2024

Halliday Wine Companion
Average vine age 57 years; 10 months in new and seasoned French oak barrels. Blueberries, lingonberries and blackberry leaf. Cherry chocolate and black peppercorns. Fruit weight sits in the front middle palate with puckering acidity and lovely dry tannins, that ebb and flow. A deep brooding cedar and cinnamon note. Full of flavour and will age well.
