Warm Weather Shipping
Caring for your wines through the warmer months
As the weather warms, so does the road your wines travel. From 28 September 2026 through to approximately 5 April 2027, our warm weather shipping preference applies.
Where the forecast reaches 30°C or above in your state — or anywhere along the transport route — eligible orders will rest in our temperature-controlled facility near Melbourne rather than travel. We will let you know if your order is held, and dispatch it as soon as conditions allow.
Fine wine is sensitive to both sustained heat and sudden changes in temperature. During the warmer months, the care we take in protecting your wines extends to the journey itself.
How it works
A hold applies when "Set my shipping default to hold orders at the warehouse if warm weather is forecast in the delivery area" is selected in your Auctions & Deliveries preferences prior to the order being raised, or where you select the hold option at checkout or when arranging delivery for an auction purchase. The choice made at the time of the order is the one that stands — you may change your account setting whenever you wish, though it will not alter an order already placed.
Unless you set a preference, orders will continue to be dispatched as soon as possible, regardless of weather conditions.
Independently of your preference, LANGTONS may also hold delivery, at our reasonable discretion, where we consider the temperature may compromise the condition of your wines.
Worth knowing before you order
In warmer parts of the country, a held order may stay with us for much of the season — occasionally beyond it. If you are in a warm climate and your preference is set to hold, please plan for your wines to remain in our care over summer rather than arrive within the usual window.
Should you ask us to release a held order, please allow:
- 5 to 10 business days to locate and retrieve it, depending on current demand
- Then 2 to 4 business days within the same state, or 3 to 8 business days interstate, via Australia Post Parcel Post
A wine wanted for a particular evening is therefore best spoken for well in advance, as we are unable to expedite at short notice.
Two small matters
The optional LANGTONS Delivery Guarantee covers Auction purchases for loss or damage in transit but does not extend to heat damage. A warm weather hold remains the surest protection through summer.
Orders for Pick Up from a Dan Murphy's store are not currently held for warm weather. If you would like a specific collection order held, simply let us know and we will arrange it. In-store collection also keeps your wines out of the elements once they arrive, which can suit heat-sensitive selections well.
Setting your preference
Please take a moment before 5 October to review your delivery address and warm weather setting:
- Log in to your account
- Go to My Account > Dashboard
- Select Manage Preferences
- Choose Auctions & Deliveries
- Switch Set my shipping default to hold orders at the warehouse if warm weather is forecast in the delivery area — gold and to the right when on, grey and to the left when off.
- Click Save
If you order through your Private Client Manager, simply share your preference with them.
