This is an incredibly exciting wine. Known for reliable wines, this address has suddenly come to play ball with the artisans! There is nothing heavy or clumsy about this, as with so much grenache from bigger companies. Just old-vine sap cleaved by finely tuned extraction, sound choice of oak and some bunches in the mix. A sandy, gently gritty tannic frame contains kirsch, Asian plum, sandalwood and bergamot notes. The effect is svelte, fresh and lively. Pinosity a-go-go. The weight and intensity, effortless of feel. Thoroughly impressive, boding so well for the future of this great variety.

What a beauty. So very long through the finish. So perfumed too. There’s a bit of grunt to this but it’s elegant and energetic as well. Sweet mint, red liquorice, earth and dry spice characters push through to a rumbling, dry, tannic, earth-and-licorice conclusion. Excellent.

Medium to deep ruby-red colour. Rope liquorice, plums and wakame aromatics. Dark fruits, aniseed and Christmas spices fill the mouth with a youthful vigour. The tannins calm the scene and carry the back-palate into a very long and lingering finish. A lovely wine.

Under the guidance of winemakers Michael Fragos and Bryn Richards, Chapel Hill strives to hand craft wines with purity and balance. To pursue this belief, all of our grapes and wines are handled gently in small batches with a restrained winemaking philosophy. As a result there are no additions of any fining agents or tannins. The red wines are open fermented, plunged and basket pressed and are not filtered to ensure the wonderful site and varietal characters are nurtured and protected. Our mantra of seeking power, style and grace encourages our wines to articulate the wonderful charm of McLaren Vale so then others can also enjoy the beauty of our place.
