About this wine

Villa Maria Reserve Chardonnay Hawkes Bay

Villa Maria now holds significant vineyards of acreage in Gimblett Gravels – land, once unwanted, that we now can’t get enough of. This Reserve Chardonnay is taken from a selection of Villa Maria’s best holdings in the Hawke’s Bay subregion. It includes a healthy proportion of Keltern fruit, Villa Maria’s flagship single-vineyard white wine.

From nose to next glass, there is a very polite jockeying for position from the vineyard and the winery at play. Pristine, pale stonefruit and airy florals are prim and lively showing Reserve quality fruit from the vineyard selection. The good winery work is present with a touch of smoke from French oak barriques and a hint of biscuit from the time spent on lees. Texture, too, gives the freshness of this Reserve Chardonnay an extra dimension.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Villa Maria
Villa Maria was founded by a young George (now Sir George) Fistonich in 1961. He has built Villa Maria from a tiny Auckland operation into one of New Zealand’s major producers and the country’s largest, wholly family-owned winery. Villa Maria opened a winery in Marlborough in 2000, and remains an international leader in the Sauvignon Blanc market. It has interests in most of the major New Zealand wine regions and is still headquartered in Auckland, with a new winery and ‘vineyard park’ opened in 2005. Wines are produced at four quality levels and commonly offer exceptional value for money. All Villa Maria wines have been bottled under screwcap since 2001.
