BOLNEY ESTATE Blanc de Blancs Brut, Sparkling, England
"I first met Sam when judging for SEVA in the '90s and when it was often hosted by Bolney. At the time, they were not making wines in the same league as the larger players and one could sense Sam's disappointment when the results were announced each year. But now Bolney Wine Estate is producing some of the best wines in the country - arguably our best reds, a spectacular blanc de blancs and bold, innovative sparkling red. The transformation Sam has engineered in a short space of time is nothing short of remarkable. I am full of admiration for her. She has shown what is possible and has been an inspiration to many of those who have come into English wine in recent years."

A touch of wet stone reaches the nose even before appetizing lemon hints make themselves known. This wine is restrained and fresh with lemon and brightness. The palate adds more depth and a grounding of creamy autolysis, but it remains slender, lithe and refreshing throughout. Fine bubbles disperse bright flavors everywhere. The lasting finish is pure.
