Tim Kirk is continuing to refine and explore the myriad of possibilities from this great site. Increasingly turning to higher proportions of whole bunches in the fermentations, he is getting greater and greater detail in his flagship wine. It is a thinker's wine, it stops you, draws you in and captivates. Incredibly detailed and floral-scented, the sumptuous and finely poised palate is a masterpiece. 98 points

89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 2% each of Malbec and Cabernet Franc blended after fermentation, hand-picked and sorted, destemmed (66% whole berries), wild-fermented in stainless steel, average 23 days on skins, matured in French oak (69% new) for 18 months. Right in the slot of the style established (with some polishing and refining) over the years. The complexity of the texture and structure is second to none, led by the born-to-rule Cabernet, the other varieties obviously of minor importance, but important nonetheless. The might of the tannins is the key to this great wine. 98 points

Bright, clear crimson; the alluring, perfumed fruits and the integrity of high quality tannins providing the structure for a long future. There is a purity to the red and black cherry/berry fruits that shines through the portals of the savoury/spicy tannins. A luminous future will richly repay those who are patient. 97 points

From the first estate plantings in 1980, matured in French oak (27% new) for 12 months. The colour and bouquet are good, the palate another thing again, soaring with its energy and drive, its length prodigious. Complex, earthy dark fruits are tied together by savoury pinot tannins of the highest quality. 97 points

From the Langi Old Block, planted in 1963. While full-bodied, this has exceptional poise and elegance, reflecting its fastidious vinification. Intense red, purple and black fruits, ripe tannins and cedary oak are members of an orchestra playing Beethoven under the direction of a great conductor. 98 points
Xanadu Reserve Margaret river Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Includes 5% each of Malbec and Petit Verdot, crushed and destemmed into static and open fermenters for 7-8 days, the Cabernet held on skins for 28 days, all components matured for 14 months in French barriques (50% new) before a best barrel selection. Cabernet doesn't come more intense than this without losing its shape; here it parlays into purity and precision. The fruit and tannins have well and truly absorbed the oak. You might think this can't be consumed now, but it can – the final achievement. 98 points
